Migrant Mother: Analysis of the documentary “Migranta con M de Mamá"

This essay offers an analysis of the figure of the migrant mother in the documentary Migranta con M de Mamá. Maternal representation is examined as an assemblage of images, narratives, and silences that articulates dimensions of care, uprootedness, and nostalgia, while also revealing omissions around sexuality, health, and silence. Drawing on insights from visual anthropology, gender studies, and critical mobility theories, the essay approaches the migrant mother as a space where inequalities and resistances converge, shaped by regimes of racialization, temporality, and the production of subjectivities. The analysis aims to challenge the limits of audiovisual representations and to reflect on migrant motherhood as an integral experience that transcends its reduction to labor power.
